The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS), formerly known as ECO+, is a government new initiative that focuses on property’s insulation to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy bills. The scheme was launched in end of 2023 and will provide funding for the eligible households until March 2026. Full funding is being provided for single insulation measure such as Wall insulations, Loft insulation, Room-In-Roof insulation, Flat Roof insulation, Room Thermostat and Heating controls under GBIS scheme.
The Great British Insulation Scheme is administered by Ofgem. The main target of Great British Insulation Scheme is to ensure improvements in least energy efficient properties in the UK so that a significant reduction in energy bills as well as fuel poverty be tackled. The scheme is complement with the ECO4 Scheme, the main focus of the ECO4 scheme is ‘whole house’ approach in which the insulation of house is prioritised over heating systems to reduce the heat loss while Great British Insulation Scheme offers the funding only for single measure.
The GBIS offers support into the range of households which are not only low-income but are also vulnerable. Other than that, the properties that have an Energy Performance Certificate rating of D-G are eligible to get funding under Great British Insulation Scheme. In addition to that, the Council Tax Band should be within A-D in England while A-E in for Scotland and Wales.
